How URemovals works
URemovals is a comparison platform for man and van drivers and removal companies across the UK. You describe your move once, we show you the providers who are actually free on your date with their real prices, and you book the one you want online.
No sending the same form to ten companies. No waiting three days for a callback. Most people go from entering their postcodes to a confirmed booking in a few minutes.
Over 1,800 moves have been booked through the platform.
The whole thing in four steps
Here is the short version. The rest of this page explains what happens inside each step, and why we ask for what we ask for.
-
Tell us about the move
Six short screens: where from and where to, van size, how much help you want, date and time, stairs, and how long you think you need the van.
-
Compare the drivers who are free
You get a priced list of the providers available on your date, sorted by price, with their insurance rating, reviews, trust score and completed jobs next to each price.
-
Book online with a deposit
Pick your driver and pay the deposit by card. The slot is yours straight away and the confirmation lands in your inbox.
-
Pay the balance on the day
Your driver turns up, does the move, and you pay the remaining balance directly to them when it is done.
Step 1: what we ask, and why
Every question on the form changes the price, which is the reason there are six screens instead of one. If you know what each one does you can get a more accurate quote first time.
Addresses
Your pick-up and drop-off postcodes, plus any extra stops. This sets the mileage charge and how far each driver has to travel to reach you.
Van size
Small van up to Luton. Guessing too small is the most common reason a move needs a second trip. If you are unsure, the van size calculator and the van size guide will settle it.
Helpers
Whether you want the driver on their own, or a second or third pair of hands. More people costs more per hour but usually cuts the total time, so it is worth comparing both.
Date and time
This is what we check availability against. There is also a description box, which is where to mention anything awkward such as a piano, a narrow access road or a parking suspension.
Stairs
Floors and lift access at both ends. Stairs slow a move down a lot, so telling us now means the price you see is the price that holds on the day.
Van time
Roughly how long you need the van for. The quote is built around that number, so be honest with yourself about how long loading will take.
Step 2: what a quote actually shows you
This is the part most comparison sites keep vague. Every quote in your list carries the same information, so you are comparing like for like rather than guessing which cheap price hides a catch.
- Total price for the job. Not a starting from figure. The cheapest is flagged as the best price, and you can sort the list yourself.
- Deposit and balance. How much you pay today to book, and how much goes to the driver on the day.
- Insurance rating. Bronze, Silver or Gold. Explained in full below.
- Star rating and review count. From customers who actually completed a move with that provider.
- Trust score out of 10, alongside the number of jobs they have completed and the miles they have driven on the platform.
- How far they are based from your collection address and from your drop-off address.
- Estimated carbon footprint for the move, in metric tons of CO2.
- ID Verified badge where the provider has passed identity checks through Stripe Identity.
- Price breakdown, which opens up the full line by line cost of that quote.
Nobody chases you afterwards. If none of the quotes suit, you can close the tab and that is the end of it.
What the insurance ratings mean
Every provider clears the same baseline before they can quote. The rating tells you what they hold on top of that baseline, and it sits on the quote so you decide before you book rather than after.
Bronze
Valid driving licence, motor insurance for the van, and the right to work in the UK.
Best for: straightforward transport jobs, single items and low value loads.
Silver
Everything in Bronze, plus Goods in Transit cover for your belongings while they are in the van.
Best for: most house and flat moves.
Gold
Everything in Silver, plus Public Liability cover.
Best for: managed buildings, offices, and anywhere a landlord asks for proof of cover.
Documents are checked before a rating is granted. If a provider lets cover lapse, the rating goes with it.
How the price is worked out
Open the price breakdown on any quote and you will see exactly these lines. There is no rounding up behind the scenes.
- Mileage charge, based on the route between your addresses at that provider's per mile rate.
- Driver time charge, for the hours you booked. Some providers set a minimum hire time of one or two hours.
- Charge for stairs, where you have told us there are floors to carry up or down.
- Fuel surcharge, shown as a percentage, only when one applies.
- Short notice fee, only on jobs booked at very short notice.
- Out of hours charge, only for moves outside a provider's normal working hours.
Different providers set different rates, which is why the same job can come back at quite different prices. That gap is the whole point of comparing.
For typical figures by van size and city, see the man and van price guide.
The bit worth reading twice
Your van is booked for a set number of hours. If the move runs over that, the extra time is charged at the half hourly rate shown in that provider's breakdown, and it is paid to your driver along with the balance.
Extra mileage is only charged if the job needs additional trips or stops beyond the route you booked.
This is why the stairs and van time questions matter. Answer them honestly and the quoted price is what you pay.
Step 3: booking and payment
When you hit book, you pay the deposit by card and the slot is held for you. The balance is not taken by us. It goes straight to your driver on moving day.
Card payments run through Stripe, which is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1, the most stringent certification in the payments industry. We never see or store your card number.
You get a confirmation email with the details, and an account where you can see the booking, your driver and your documents.
Step 4: moving day
Your driver has your job details and your contact number, and they will be in touch to confirm timings.
While they are on the way you can follow the van on a live map from your account. Tracking switches off once the driver marks themselves as arrived.
After the move you pay the balance directly to the driver, and you will be asked to leave a review. Those reviews are what feed the star ratings and trust scores everyone else compares against, so they matter.
Who is actually turning up
The people quoting on your job are independent local operators and small removal firms, not URemovals employees. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the thing that decides how good your move is.
Before a provider can quote, they submit their driving licence, van insurance and proof of the right to work, and accept the platform terms. Goods in Transit and Public Liability documents unlock the Silver and Gold ratings. Many also complete identity verification through Stripe Identity, which shows as a badge on their quote.
After that, their record does the talking. Completed jobs, miles driven, reviews and trust score all sit on the quote where you can see them, and they only go up by doing the work properly.
If plans change
Your date moves. Get in touch and we will usually update the booking rather than cancel it.
You need to cancel. Cancel at least 48 hours before the move and you get a full refund.
Your driver cannot make it. We find you a replacement or refund you in full.
What you can book this way
The same process covers everything on the platform. Only the van size and the number of helpers really change.
Man and van
Flats, single rooms, furniture, deliveries and the odd awkward item. The most common booking on the platform.
House removals
Full home moves with a bigger van and a team, quoted the same transparent way.
Student moves
Halls to house shares and back home for summer, usually a small van and a couple of hours.

Common questions
A man and van service is a driver with a van who moves your belongings, usually charged by the hour plus mileage rather than as a fixed removals package. You book the van size and the number of people you need, the driver loads and unloads with you, and you pay for the time the job takes. It suits flats, single rooms, student moves, furniture deliveries and small house moves.
No. URemovals is a comparison platform. We do not own vans or employ drivers. The people quoting on your job are independent local man and van operators and removal firms who list their prices and availability with us. You book one of them through the platform and they carry out the move.
Comparing quotes is free, and you are not asked for card details to see prices. The total shown on a quote is the price for the job, so nothing extra is added at checkout. Open the price breakdown on any quote to see how it adds up.
No. You pay a deposit online to hold the slot, shown on every quote as the amount to pay today, and the balance goes directly to your driver on moving day.
Anything booked within 24 hours of the move counts as an urgent job. It goes through exactly the same matching process as a standard booking, there is no separate priority queue. Partners typically respond within 10 minutes to 2 hours, and same day availability comes down to who is free near you.
Every provider holds a driving licence, motor insurance for the van and the right to work in the UK. On top of that, Silver adds Goods in Transit cover and Gold adds Public Liability. The rating sits on the quote, so you choose the level of cover before you book.
If a booked provider cannot complete the job, we find you a replacement driver or refund you in full.
Yes. If your dates move, the booking can usually be updated rather than cancelled, so tell us as soon as you know. Cancel at least 48 hours before the scheduled move and you get a full refund.
Your van is booked for the hours in the quote. If the job runs over, the extra time is charged at the half hourly rate in that provider's price breakdown and paid to the driver with the balance. Extra mileage only applies to additional trips or stops beyond the route you booked.
