A student move in Birmingham is one room, not a house. URemovals covers the lot, from the halls and student blocks near the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University and Aston to the house shares out in Selly Oak, Bournbrook and Harborne. Book it online, see the price upfront, and pick your driver.

What's it cost?

Most student moves in Birmingham cost £65 to £105. A single room is one of the smallest jobs on the platform, so it is one of the cheapest. Moving a shared house in Selly Oak? Split the van between flatmates and it is a few quid each.

Skint-friendly

Small load, small bill. No big-van prices.

Split it

Share one van with flatmates, with a drop-off for each of you.

Small deposit

A bit to book, the rest on the day.

What size van do you need?

Small or medium. One room does not need a Luton, and a bigger van just means paying for fresh air.

Small van
Boxes, bags and the odd bit of furniture.
Medium van
A full room, mattress and desk and all.

Not sure? The van size calculator sorts it. Clearing a whole Selly Oak house with the flatmates? That is a full house move, so use the Birmingham removals service instead.

The move-out catch

Two things catch Birmingham students out. The city-centre tower blocks run one goods lift and a booked move-out slot, often from a high floor. And if your move runs in or through the centre, the Clean Air Zone inside the A4540 ring road charges older vans. The Selly Oak and Bournbrook terraces add narrow streets, tight parking and stairs. Sort the access before you book:

  • Your floor, and whether the lift needs booking in a city-centre block
  • The move-out slot your block or landlord gives you
  • Whether your route runs through the city-centre Clean Air Zone
  • Where the van can park on a busy Selly Oak terrace
  • Narrow doors and stairs in older terraced houses

Tell your driver the floor, the lift and the parking up front. They turn up ready.

When everyone moves

Most Birmingham student houses turn over at the start of July, so two windows go mad. Book early and you actually get the slot you want.

1

Start of July

Selly Oak and Bournbrook tenancies end. The busiest week. Book two to three weeks ahead.

2

Mid September

New term, halls fill up and everyone arrives at once. Get in early.

3

Term time

Dead quiet. The cheapest, easiest time to move.

Heading home for summer?

Going home for the break and not keen on lugging everything twice? Book your move, drop your things in self storage for the summer, then book again in September. Smaller van each way, less cash.

Birmingham student move FAQs

How much does a student move in Birmingham cost?

Most student moves in Birmingham cost £65 to £105. A single room is a small load, so it is one of the cheapest jobs. The price depends on the van size, the distance and the driver you pick, and you see the full quote upfront.

Do you cover Selly Oak and the university areas?

Yes. Selly Oak, Bournbrook, Harborne and Edgbaston are the busiest student areas, plus the city-centre blocks near Birmingham City University and Aston. Most moves are within a few miles.

Will the van pay the Birmingham Clean Air Zone charge?

Only if your move runs through the city-centre zone inside the A4540 ring road, and only for older vans. Most Selly Oak and Bournbrook moves stay outside it, so they are not affected.

Can I book a last-minute move?

Yes, if a driver is free. Anything within about 15 hours has a small short-notice fee, shown before you pay.
