What this page covers

What is URemovals?

URemovals is a comparison and booking platform for man and van work in the UK. You put in your collection address, delivery address, date, van size and how many helpers you want. The site works out the distance for your specific move, finds the closest available providers whose coverage includes your addresses, and shows you their prices side by side.

The part that matters is what happens next. You choose the driver. Quotes are listed with the price, the provider's insurance tier, how many jobs they have completed and their reviews from previous customers, and you pick the one you want. Platforms that assign a driver to you at random take that decision away. We think you should keep it, because you are the one who has to let this person into your home.

URemovals does not own vans and does not employ drivers. Every provider is an independent local business that sets its own rates and manages its own vehicle. That model is why prices vary between providers on the same job, and it is also why choosing between them is the whole point of the site.

The company was built from 2020 and launched publicly in September 2022. Robert and Sandor Bundsag ran their own man and van service in Southampton before that, using comparison sites to find work every day. Robert's summary of why they built it:

"Having our own house removal company and using comparison sites to get jobs each day made us realise that most of the existing sites are not as cost-effective and straightforward as they try to seem. Both from a driver's side and from a customer's side, there are a lot of disadvantages."

Recognition

Third-party signals are worth more than anything we say about ourselves, so here is what exists. URemovals won Best Removals Comparison Platform at the SME UK Transport Awards 2026, having also won at the SME UK Transport Awards 2024 and the SME Southern Enterprise Awards 2023. The Sun featured the platform in its Sun Savers money-saving guide to moving house, and White & Company, one of the UK's largest removal firms, lists URemovals as a trusted comparison platform in its guide to reducing moving costs.

Services explained

Everything on the platform runs through the same booking flow. The difference between services is the van size, the number of helpers and the kind of items being moved.

  • Man and van. The core service. A driver and van, with helpers if you want them, priced by time. Suits flat moves, single items, marketplace and IKEA collections, and anything where you are happy to do some of the lifting.
  • House removals. Larger vans and two or three person teams for whole-property moves. Local or long distance.
  • Office and commercial relocation. Business moves, shop and retail fit-outs, planned around your downtime. Same van sizes and pricing logic as a home move.
  • Large furniture transport. Sofas, wardrobes, beds, appliances, single bulky items. Many drivers carry tools for dismantling and reassembly, though this varies by provider, so ask before booking.
  • Student moves. Smaller vans, term-time timing, usually the cheapest jobs on the platform.
  • Motorcycle transport. Specialist providers with the right straps and ramps.
  • Same-day and next-day moves. Anything booked within 24 hours of the move counts as urgent. It goes through exactly the same matching process, there is no separate priority queue. Typical provider response is 10 minutes to 2 hours.

What URemovals does not do

Most moving sites list every adjacent service they can think of. Here is the honest version of what is not included, so nothing surprises you on the day.

  • No packing service. Your belongings need to be packed and ready to load before the driver arrives.
  • No moving boxes. We do not supply them. Some drivers will, for an extra charge, if you ask.
  • No cleaning, handyman or clearance brands. There is no sister company to bundle these in.
  • No van-only hire. Every quote includes a driver.
  • No European or international moves. The platform covers UK moves.
  • No pre-move survey. Quotes are built from the details you enter, not from someone visiting your property. For a very large or complex move, a traditional removals firm offering an in-person or video survey is the better fit, and we would rather say that than take a booking that goes wrong.
  • Not a fixed-price guarantee. Quotes are upfront estimates. If the job runs over the time booked, overrun is charged at the provider's rate, which is disclosed before you book.

How booking works

  1. Enter your move. Collection and delivery addresses, date and time, van size and number of helpers. If you are not sure what size you need, the van size calculator works it out from what you are moving.
  2. Compare the quotes. The site shows upfront prices from the closest available providers, side by side, each with its insurance tier, completed job count and customer reviews.
  3. Choose your driver and pay the deposit. You pick the provider you want. A deposit is taken through Stripe to hold the slot. Card details are handled by Stripe and never stored by us.
  4. Get your confirmation. An email arrives with the booking details plus your driver's name and phone number, so you can speak to them directly before the day.
  5. Pay the balance on the day. The remainder goes directly to the driver when the job is done.

You can compare quotes without a confirmed move date, though you will not be able to book until you have one, and prices can move in the meantime.

Worth knowing before you book. Your presence at the collection address is optional, but someone over 18 must be there. Parking needs to be within 10 metres of the loading point with access suitable for the van size you booked. Both of these are in our terms, and both are common causes of extra charges when they are missed.

Prices, and how they compare with real UK moves

Starting prices on the platform are a floor, not a total. What you actually pay depends on van size, helpers, how long the job takes including travel, and stairs.

Published starting prices

Van From Best for
Small van £20 per hour Student moves, single rooms, a few boxes, one appliance
Medium van From £40 per hour Studio or one-bed flat, up to 25 boxes, a double bed
Large van From £40 per hour Studio or one-bed contents, 30 to 40 boxes, sofas and wardrobes
Luton van From £45 per hour One to three bedroom homes, bulky furniture, clearances

Helpers are priced on top: driver only, driver plus one, or driver plus two. A driver plus two team costs more per hour but often costs less overall on a big job, because the van is loaded in half the time.

What people actually pay

This is the part most moving sites cannot show you, because they do not have the bookings. Our UK Man and Van Price Index 2026 is built from 1,514 completed, paid bookings with move dates between January 2025 and July 2026, covering 49 UK cities. It is updated quarterly and published under a CC BY 4.0 licence, so anyone can use it.

  • The median man and van move in the UK costs £165.
  • Half of all moves land between £115 and £250.
  • Drivers charge an average of £47 per hour for a medium van with one helper on a weekday.
  • The typical move books 2.9 hours of van time.
  • Manchester is the cheapest city in the index at a £120 median. Dover is the most expensive at £335.
City Median move Typical range Avg hours Avg hourly rate
Manchester £120 £85 to £205 2.6 £50
Liverpool £125 £90 to £195 2.5 £44
London £130 £80 to £195 2.6 £46
Birmingham £145 £85 to £220 2.6 £50
Leeds £145 £100 to £250 3.0 £42
Glasgow £150 £115 to £220 2.6 £44
Nottingham £150 £95 to £215 2.6 £53
Reading £155 £115 to £235 2.7 £46

Source: URemovals UK Man and Van Price Index 2026, updated July 2026. A booking counts towards a city when collection falls within 25km of the city centre. Cities need at least 10 completed bookings to publish full move costs.

London being cheaper than Leeds surprises people. It is a volume effect. London has by far the most providers competing for work, and the moves themselves are shorter. Rural and coastal areas cost more per move because drivers travel further to reach you and there are fewer of them.

Insurance and vetting

Every provider is verified before being listed. Required documents are a valid UK licence, or an EU or EEA licence you are entitled to drive on in the UK, hire and reward motor insurance, and proof of right to work in the UK. Trading details are checked too. Drivers who opt into Stripe Identity get an additional programmatic check against government-issued documents.

Hire and reward insurance is the one worth pausing on. It is the cover a driver legally needs to carry goods for payment, and standard van insurance is not it. We verify it. Most competitor platforms do not check.

Tier What has been verified
Bronze Driving licence, hire and reward motor insurance, right to work
Silver Everything in Bronze, plus goods in transit cover
Gold Everything in Silver, plus public liability insurance

The tier is shown on every quote before you book, so a cheaper Bronze quote sitting next to a pricier Gold one is a choice you make with the information in front of you.

One thing that is genuinely your responsibility: check that the total value of what you are moving is actually covered by that provider's goods in transit limit, and confirm it with the driver before work starts. If you are moving something high value, ask. This applies to every mover in the country, not just ours.

URemovals is also preparing to be among the first UK booking platforms to comply with the Digital Platform Reporting Obligation, which requires platforms to report self-employed provider income to HMRC.

Coverage areas

Over 1,000 verified providers cover more than 100 UK cities and towns. Providers work from their base city out to a radius they set themselves, so what you see is only the drivers who genuinely cover both your addresses, not a national list filtered down after the fact.

Active coverage includes London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Nottingham and Plymouth, along with Newcastle, Leicester, Coventry, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, Reading, Oxford and Cambridge. The full list is on areas we cover.

Long distance and city to city moves work the same way. If you want to see where people are actually moving, the migration hotspots map and the UK relocation data hub are built from the same booking data.

Reviews and reputation

Reviews on URemovals can only be left by a customer who completed a booking, which is why the volume is lower than sites that accept reviews from anyone.

4.7

on Google

Verified reviews on uremovals.com/reviews as of 1 August 2026: 315 five star, 8 four star, 7 three star, 5 two star, 2 one star.

What customers praise

The recurring themes in five star reviews are punctuality, drivers who work hard rather than clock-watch, careful handling, and price coming in where it was quoted. Customers name individual drivers constantly, which is the pattern you would expect when the same person is doing their own jobs rather than being dispatched by a call centre.

Where the criticism lands

Around 2% of reviews are one or two star. Pretending otherwise would be insulting, so here is what those actually say, and what happens about each.

  • Late arrival. The most common complaint by a distance. Your driver's number is in your confirmation email specifically so you can chase them directly. If a driver does not turn up at all, call 020 8064 2103 and we refund the initial payment.
  • A booked helper not arriving. Customers who paid for a driver plus helper and got only the driver. This is a real failure and worth raising with us on the day, not after.
  • Disputes when the load is bigger than described. If what is actually there does not match what was entered, drivers ask for more time or a bigger van, and that argument happens on your doorstep. Being accurate in the item description is the single best thing you can do to avoid it.
  • Damage. Rare, but it happens, and it is exactly why the insurance tier on the quote is worth reading before you pick the cheapest option.

Because every provider is an independent business, service varies between them more than it would at a firm with employed crews. That is the honest trade-off of the model. The counterweight is that you can see each provider's rating and completed job count before you choose, which you cannot do when a platform assigns someone to you.

If something goes wrong

  • Driver cannot attend. We look for a replacement. If we cannot find one, your initial payment is refunded in full.
  • Cancelling. Free up to 48 hours before your slot, by phone or through your customer dashboard. Inside 48 hours, the initial payment is forfeited.
  • Rescheduling. Same 48 hour rule. We will try to keep your chosen provider, and if neither they nor a replacement can make the new date, you get a full refund of the initial payment.
  • Liability. Worth being straight about: drivers are self-employed contractors, and URemovals' liability for non-fulfilment is limited to the initial payment you made to us. Anything beyond that sits with the driver. This is section 29 of the terms.

Pros and cons

Where it works well
  • You choose your own driver instead of being assigned one
  • Upfront prices with no VAT added on top
  • Hire and reward insurance verified, which most platforms skip
  • Insurance tier, review score and completed jobs visible on every quote
  • Deposit only, with the balance paid to the driver on the day
  • Real published booking data, so you can sanity check the price
  • Local providers prioritised, which cuts both cost and empty mileage
  • 1% of every booking goes to Stripe Climate
Where it may not suit you
  • No packing service and no boxes supplied
  • No pre-move survey, so very large or complex moves are better served elsewhere
  • Service varies between independent providers
  • Quotes are estimates, and overrunning the booked time costs more
  • Cancelling inside 48 hours forfeits the deposit
  • Our liability is capped at the initial payment, with the rest sitting with the driver
  • Goods in transit limits vary by provider, so high value items need checking first
  • UK only, no European moves

How to choose any mover, including the ones that are not us

This checklist works whoever you book with. If a company fails several of these, walk away, and that includes us.

  • Check hire and reward insurance. Not standard van insurance. A driver carrying your things for money needs it, and plenty of cheap operators do not have it.
  • Check goods in transit limits, not just whether cover exists. Ask for the figure and compare it with what your belongings are actually worth. Self-packed boxes are often excluded.
  • Get the total in writing. Including what happens if the job overruns, and at what hourly rate.
  • Ask what triggers extra charges. Stairs, long carries from the parking spot, waiting time, mileage beyond a set distance, ferries, dismantling. These are where quotes diverge.
  • For a whole house, insist on a survey. A reputable full-service removals firm will offer one in person or by video. Be wary of a large-house price quoted blind.
  • Read reviews across more than one platform. How a company replies to a bad review tells you more than the average score does.
  • Check accreditation for large moves. British Association of Removers membership means annual audits and a Trading Standards approved code. It is not the only marker of a good mover, but for a full household move it is worth asking about.

How to make your move cheaper

  • Move mid-week and mid-month. Month end, weekends and the summer peak are the busiest and priciest. Our best time to move tool shows demand by week from real bookings, so you can pick a quiet one.
  • Book the right van, not the biggest. Overbooking size is the most common way people overpay. The van size calculator sizes it from your actual inventory.
  • Declutter before you get quotes. Pricing follows volume and time, not bedrooms. A tidy three-bed can be cheaper to move than a cluttered two-bed.
  • Be honest in the item description. Under-describing does not save money, it just moves the argument to your doorstep and adds overrun charges.
  • Sort parking at both ends. Within 10 metres of the door if you can. Long carries and waiting time are billed by the hour.
  • Pack and label before the van arrives. The clock runs while the driver waits, so every box ready by the door is money kept.
  • Do the carrying yourself if you are able. Selecting no stairs help lowers the quote, but only choose it if you genuinely will carry things down yourself.
  • Compare like with like. Check helper count, van size and insurance tier before you compare two headline prices.

Frequently asked questions

Is URemovals a removals company?

No. URemovals is a comparison and booking platform. It owns no vans and employs no drivers. Every provider is an independent self-employed local business, which is why you compare several of them and choose one rather than being allocated a crew.

How much does URemovals cost?

Prices start at £20 per hour for a small van, £40 for a transit and £45 for a Luton. Across all completed bookings the median move costs £165, with half of moves falling between £115 and £250, and drivers charging an average of £47 per hour for a medium van with one helper. The final price depends on van size, helpers, total time including travel, and stairs. No VAT is added.

Is my move insured?

Cover depends on which provider you choose, and the level is shown on every quote before you book. Bronze means licence, hire and reward motor insurance and right to work are verified. Silver adds verified goods in transit cover. Gold adds public liability. Check the goods in transit limit covers what your belongings are worth, and confirm it with the driver before work starts.

Are the drivers vetted?

Yes. Every provider is verified before being listed, with a valid driving licence, hire and reward motor insurance, right to work in the UK, and trading details all checked. Hire and reward is the cover legally required to carry goods for payment, and it is a check most competitor platforms do not perform. Drivers who opt into Stripe Identity get an additional check against government-issued documents.

Can I choose my own driver?

Yes, and this is the main difference from platforms that assign one. Quotes appear side by side with price, insurance tier, completed job count and customer reviews, and you pick.

When do I pay?

A deposit is taken through Stripe when you book, which secures the slot. The balance is paid directly to your driver on moving day. Stripe handles the card details and we do not store them.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes, at least 48 hours before your slot, either on 020 8064 2103 during working hours or through your customer dashboard. Inside 48 hours the initial payment is forfeited. For rescheduling we will try to keep your original provider, and if neither they nor a replacement can make the new date you receive a full refund of the initial payment.

What happens if my driver does not turn up?

Call the driver first using the number in your confirmation email. If they do not attend, call us on 020 8064 2103. We will look for a replacement provider, and if we cannot find one your initial payment is refunded in full.

Does URemovals do packing, boxes or clearance?

No. Your items need to be packed and ready before the driver arrives, and we do not supply boxes, though some drivers will for an extra charge if you ask. Most drivers carry tools for dismantling and reassembling furniture, but this varies, so put the request in the description box when you book so your driver knows.

Does URemovals cover my area?

Over 1,000 providers cover more than 100 UK cities and towns. Providers set their own coverage radius from their base city, and the site only shows those who genuinely cover your collection and delivery addresses. Check areas we cover, or just enter your postcodes and see who comes back.

How far in advance should I book?

A week or two gives you the best choice of providers and prices, more during the summer peak and at month end. Same-day and next-day moves are booked regularly, with typical provider response between 10 minutes and 2 hours.

Do quotes include VAT?

No VAT is added. Providers on the platform are self-employed and build their overheads into their rates.

How does URemovals compare with other UK moving platforms?

The model is similar to other comparison platforms, with two real differences. You choose your own driver rather than being assigned one, and hire and reward insurance is verified rather than assumed. Where a traditional removals firm wins is on whole-house moves needing a survey, packing crews and BAR accreditation, none of which we offer. For flat moves, single items, student moves and furniture transport, comparing several local providers on price and rating is usually both cheaper and faster.
